VIDEOS
I’m not expert at video-making, but I have hours and hours of footage from my research trips to Vietnam that I’m posting as a means of, at least, showing some of the places this guide talks about.
CHAU DOC, Mekong Delta
Three-day package tours from Saigon usually spend a night in Chau Doc, near the Cambodian border. I went on my own and got a lot more out of it. Here’s some random shots of the area plus a hopelessly joyful soundtrack.
HA TIEN, Mekong Delta
This town on the sea is a friendly, low-key sort of place near interesting cave pagodas, some pretty good beaches and fish shacks at Hong Chen, 35km south.
HANOI, Hoan Kiem Lake
One of the great things to do is walk around the central lake early, very early, like 5am or 6am, when locals come to excercise — by playing badminton, stretching or various sorts of Jazzercise.
PHU QUOC ISLAND
Famous for fishers, fish sauce and white-sand beaches, Phu Quoc is ambling to be the ‘next Phuket.’ A few beach bungalows are stretching up for higher budgets, but much much much is still untouched. For now.
