TOURS vs DIY MEKONG?

Chau Doc Smilers

Though you don’t have to, nearly every visitor to the Mekong goes on a group tour or by a customized one with a guide. When the times and locations of floating markets and canal rides vary wildly, by day, by season – and the numbers of potential stops number in the hundreds – you need someone who knows, and there’s generally a lack of reliable information once you’re out there.

–>Check GROUP TOURS for a run-down on one-day, two-day and three-day boat and bike trips of the Mekong. It’s also possible to take a tour that samples the Mekong en route to Phnom Penh.

–> See DIY TRIPS — as well as all sections of this guide — if you’re interested in seeing Mekong on your own. It’s how I updated it, and it makes for an excellent trip, often long ways from the nearest tour group.
