Best Time to Go October to March
How Long? By day trip from Ha Tien, or overnight at a rare west-facing Vietnam hotel with sunset views over the sea
Gateway Motorcycle taxi from Ha Tien
Fact Based on a tragic legend, the rocky Hon Phu Tu (Father & Son Isle) found tragedy again in mid 2006 when the father ‘died’ after a storm knocked the stone column into the sea – now the ‘son’ faces the waves alone

Home to the Mekong’s best beach – perhaps the only worthy one – Hon Chong (30km east of Ha Tien) is a fun spot for a day of dining in sand-floor fish shacks on a couple clean brown-sand beach that curl to a limestone formations. Vietnamese love it, and weekends can get filled with revelers from Chau Doc, Rach Gia, Ha Tien and Chan Tho. Some call it ‘little Ha Long Bay,’ which is code for ‘nowhere near as good as the original,’ but that doesn’t mean it’s not good.

If you make it to Ha Tien, it’d be a shame not to come for the day or a night at the Hom Trem Resort.
